Day 03 - 09/28 - Canberra - Day 2

Since we're on vacation (wait this is life), we slept in until 8am. We ate breakfast in the hotel and then headed out to the city on bus R06. At the bridge into the city, the Floriade which is the Canberra spring flower festival was in full swing with lots of attendees. At our R06 bus stop we finally found the Cultural Loop bus stop. After a quick trip into Target to look for a replacement fuse for one of our electrical cords. None was found. We boarded the Cultural Loop bus and rode it for its 45 minute loop which oriented us further to the city. I should comment that this city is big and the venues are quite spread out. Using the Cultural Loop bus which only runs until 4pm worked out well.

After riding the Cultural Loop bus one loop, we took it to the Australian National Museum where we spent a couple of hours. While there was a Dreamworks exhibition currently showing, we viewed the historical exhibits which were very good. We then hopped back on the Cultural Loop bus and rode the remainder of the circle once again. We found our way to a camera store and the personnel there recommended that we find a Bunnings home improvement store (like Home Depot in the states). To get there we hopped on the newly made operational light rail and rode it to Gungahlin about 7km to the north of the city center. The coach was new and modern.

At Gungahlin which is a new and modern suburb, there was a huge shopping area and the Bunnings was located about 3/4 of a mile north of the end of light rail station. We made our way there but they didn't stock what we needed, but an employee referred us to a local auto parts store, CheapAuto, and they had what we needed but in a lower amperage rating. But I bought it anyway. On the way back to the light rail, we stopped at an Ali Babba middle eastern restaurant. It was yummy! We made our way back to the light rail and took it back to the town center.

We wandered back to the Canberra Centre Mall and purchased a few grocery items before catching our #R06 bus back to the IBIS Styles hotel. Once again it was dark when we got back, but it was a good day. As we made our way to our room, we noted that there are several hundred young people staying here again tonight.

Tomorrow is our last full day in Canberra and we have another adventure planned. Stay tuned.
